I had created a new account with a new phone number and email address. After a few days, the « who likes you » thing was at +20, however, despite right swiping on everyone available for like 3 days (exhausting my likes) I had no matches, and yet the thing still said that I had +20 likes.

Through analyzing the mosaic, I noticed that at least a few of the girls that had liked me had already showed up in the list and I had left swiped them, but they were still on the likes list, these looked like the « least promising ». One of the girls in the mosaics looked really nice (as far as I could tell) as well.

I even tried the « 1 mile trick » and still, nada, no matches.

I caved in today and bought gold to see what the whole thing was about…Turns out, as I suspected, tinder was basically hiding the girls who liked me for no apparent reason other than to get me to buy gold. A majority of them weren’t even 5 miles away, so there’s no reason why they shouldn’t have appeared in the normal stack during the 3 days where I swiped until exhausting the likes.

Also, the « Most promising » girl disappeared from the list entirely.

It’s my guess that tinder will hide a percentage of your matches under the gold barrier. If you don’t get many matches, this means you’ll barely be able to match with anyone unless you buy Gold. It seems that they also throw a fake « high ranked » user to push you even further to buy it, and of course once you do, it disappears from the list.

Tinder has honestly been getting worse and worse with each update, and having discovered this, I’m sure it’ll be my last month using it. I hope they at least give me a refund for the subscription. Also hoping for more people to discover this shady practice and see if they’re at least shamed enough to push back on it.
