Easter Writing Prompt: We Love You

Dearest Love,
I want you to know you are not alone.
Even though we may not live in the same
Time zone and you forgot my name
Years ago, or maybe I never knew yours
I see you. I know this is not how we thought
Life would turn out
Your hands, able to once hold cartwheels
And carve intricate spirals through soapstone
Your eyes, seeing in all of us the humanity
I see in you — raw, dignified, released, pure
Freedom —
I am with you.
Your children’s children may not arrive
You may have to turn back from
The fawn you witnessed in the yard this morning
The tire swing still spinning with your laughter
The gorgeous lilac drifting into your room
A frayed letter whose creases were made deep
Through the rehearsal, the revision, the reading
Your dreams, acknowledged, amazing you
It is you who we look to — graceful, kind, generous
Wisdom child, you are not alone.
And you will not be left behind.
