Dating : Date 3, Part 1: The Guy I Used To Date

Olive Finding Love In LA

My next date is on Saturday. We’re going for a hike at Los Liones.

There’s only one catch – he has everything in common with the guy I used to date. It’s kind of scary how similar they seem.

I matched with him because I thought “OMG he’s cute.” But the only reason I thought he was cute was because he looks exactly like Josh (the guy I dated for six months and am still getting over).

They are both adorable Jewish guys with a full smile and bright, curious eyes.

That’s not all.

They both went to The University of Michigan.

They both started practicing yoga to recover from sports injuries, and ended up making it a regular practice.

They both grew up in the most privileged neighborhoods in the US. Josh grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He grew up in Beverly Hills, which is basically the same thing? Private schools. Pretentious kids. I suppose I can’t really judge because I know nothing about either community, other than what I’ve seen on TV.

They both have the same favorite podcasts. When we started talking about books and podcasts, he asked me what my favorite podcast was. I told him I loved the Tim Ferris Show and The Knowledge Project. Based on his book recommendations and everything else he told me, a part of me knew he loved those podcasts as much as I do.

And of course he responds by saying, “Those are literally my two favorite podcasts.”

I knew it.

He doesn’t know that Josh was the one who recommended both podcasts to me, and I only started listening to them because of him. Ugh.

You get the point.

Basically, the only differences between them is that this guy grew up in LA, and Josh grew up in New York. This guy is a software engineer and Josh is an entrepreneur who loves e-commerce and design.

I hope there are other differences between them, otherwise we all know it won’t work out. Is this is a mistake? Only the date will tell.

Until Saturday,

Olive
