Dating : The Myth of the Silver Fox

h2>Dating : The Myth of the Silver Fox

When I first started dating, I assumed that I would date men within my age range, give or take a few years in either direction. Instead, I found myself repeatedly dating men in their thirties. I found over and over again that men my age and up approached me as if I was a little girl.

They didn’t understand that, as a middle-aged mother with a career, I really didn’t need their guidance. I was perfectly capable all on my own.

Moreover, I actually already have a father. He annoys the crap out of me with his constant unsolicited advice and guidance but at least he is actually my father. He housed me and fed me. Taught me how to fish and helps me with my car. The daddy position is well filled and when he is gone, there will not be a vacancy. He is the only man for that position.

Younger men seemed to know better than to try to act like a father figure. They show me respect for my lived experience. They were more likely to understand that I may have life experiences that they had yet to encounter, and I appreciate that.
