Dating : THE VERY LONG STORYBOARD

Once long ago, in a realm beyond all measure, a tiny glimmer appeared on a patch of white.

It appeared in a place where no things of any other kind had ever been seen before. For there was only just the white, as far back as could be remembered, and the white knew it had been all there ever was. And certainly, way-back-when, nobody knew anything about glimmers or anything else for that matter.

I imagine that if the tiny glimmer could have talked it might have said something like, “Oh, what is this?” once it settled down, of course.

But, like new cells on a storyboard, the glimmer flickered into a line that grew along the flat, and a delicate ripple was formed, as into an opaque window.

It wavered and shuffled awkwardly, at first, and then after intervals curled itself curiously into a tiny gentle question mark, as if peering beyond.

However, perspectives lay alongside largely in imagination, don’t you know, and therefore with some effort the little line reached out from side-to-side and stretched itself into a horizon where it could get a better vantage point.

So, the little line stayed quite still…

… and just looked and listened for the longest time.

There was buzzing sometimes coming from close at hand or rumblings from far away, and at other times there was the sound of trickling water. But occasionally, humming could be heard as well as beautiful music as if echoed through walls, hallways and distant lands. Stories were enfolded in the melodies, you see, which often spoke of long forgotten secrets. This is one of those secrets. And, as if by magic, a whole new world opened up for the little line even though all it could see was the white.

Before long the little line could see a huge world embedded everywhere all around, and yet an even bigger mystery still remained.

“Where does all this come from?” thought the little line.

So, the little line stayed quite still…

… and just looked and listened for the longest time.
