This is so very true. I am from India, living here, too. And in our culture which has been rooted in patriarchy and misogyny, although there is some change now, girls were married off in early teens to men in their late 20’s or 30’s. The disparity was a lot. It got better as marriage before 18 has been made illegal here. But, still when arranging marriages (that’s how most people still marry in India), families look for a man who is at least 3 or 4 years older than the woman. I married my college sweetheart and he is a year younger than me. And when I see marriages with older husbands, your point comes across so true. I enjoy a happy marriage with equal partnership and also feel blessed with a very comfortable companionship and chemistry. Even this one year difference in which I am older is a big deal here and we don’t make it public. But this really works better. So much that I cannot imagine myself married to an older man and my husband cannot imagine being married to a younger woman. Lol.
