POF : Can people see/ get alerts when you log on?
I’ve had a few chats going and the instant I open the app after being offline for like 8-10hrs (overnight it’s off) they message me as soon as I open it.
It’s either a coincidence and they log on same time as me or it’s a bit stalkery… can people get alerts as you log on?

If you have messaged them before, your name appears in green on their home page once you log in.
Not at all. You can maybe see a green dot stating they are online but doesn’t mean it’s accurate.
People can have the app open in the background and not actually be on the app browsing or chatting of whatever.
No. If they happen to be online at the time they would see a green « online now » by your profile, but they don’t receive (and cannot receive) notifications when you are on. Even paid members don’t have this sort of feature. As a paid member I’ve found that the ‘online now’ showing in the inbox list/etc tends to overrun by about 20 minutes (as in, it will still show a member as online even when they already left a while ago) whereas the ‘last online’ in the person’s profile seems more accurate.

…that said, a friend once logged in and saw me online, and I’d been deactivated for a month. So I sort of believe the rumors that POF falsely makes profiles look ‘active’ to make new users think more potential people are around.

In your case what’s most likely happening is the person is using the POF web app/site. On there, on the inbox page, it shows in small text above the messages, the user names of people you have corresponded with who are currently online. As people leave and enter, the names change around. As soon as you log on your username pops into that area, and someone who has messaged you before would see it instantly. (I think it shows up to about a dozen user names there? I’ve never counted)
