POF : New user, my experience so far…

Basically I just spent the last half hour responding to messages from women who are apparently real people, but ultimately just work their way up to tell me they want to talk or video-chat and then tell me things « i tried calling you but i guess you have the feature turned off, click this link to set it up ».

I’m not super gullible, I didn’t fall for it, and have been reporting and blocking them, but damn it’s so disheartening. At first I was like, wow look at all these matches. And honestly the women and the profiles are different enough from each other that it’s not at all obvious that they’re scammers.

So I guess I’m wondering: does this site/app actually work?? Does any conventionally attractive woman who appears in my inbox or likes me automatically mean it’s a scammer??

Seriously I know this happens to everyone a bit, but it was immediate and I just wasn’t expecting this, so now I’m feeling pretty down about it.

By the way, I’m a M (23), and I’m really confused, it says when you view from the sent messages tab, that the person read the message, despite not being online since a week ago. But when you click on the actual persons profile to view the message, it still says unread.

What do you think?

  1. They’re not « scammers », they’re just girls who market their adult stuff to thirsty dudes. At worst, they’re leading you to believe they’re something they’re not, which is pretty par for the course on POF anyway.
