POF : Unable to create an account on POF on Windows: « username has already been taken »

No matter what I write on the username field, I get this message:

« This username has already been taken or contains invalid characters such as @,’& etc. Pick another.

I even tried randomly generated names, such as qwmiejjtmkosytyj , but it didn’t work. I also tried several browsers, but it didn’t help.

Their support team misunderstood my question and thought I was having an « invalid number » error, but I am not registering using my phone: I’m using a PC.

So I have 2 questions:

1) Does anyone here know what is going on?

2) If I create an account from the Android app, will I be able to use it later on my PC?
