I dated a woman from Ukraine and as another comment mentioned, this is completely normal in their society. Women expect men to provide for their every want and need. Women expect men to be a man in everything and they don’t like providing for the man in anyway. It’s rude for a man to not bring a gift on a date. It’s rude for the man to not bring a gift to her mom when visiting. It’s rude for a man to not offer to buy her anything she wants when at a store. I tried to explain to her the norms in America but yeah she didn’t accept it. Hopefully this gal is open to change.

I read in a few comments that this is normal in Ukraine. I was just going to say that I find the general reaction to this surprising, since it’s the same here in Egypt. It’s expected that the husband provides for the whole family, and the mother stays at home and cares for the house/children. If they want to work, then the money they make is their own. Any other countries like that?
My ex-wife wanted to move to a better house. I told her that I couldn’t afford by myself and that if she helped, we could afford the best place she wanted. Not too surprised that she asked for a divorce a month later.
