Tinder : Question about the use of “bro”…?

Why do guys on dating apps freak out when I use the word “bro” towards them in a sentence/while chatting? It’s like their automatic response is to freak out. While I was chatting with some guy right now on another dating app, he ignored everything else I sent AFTER bro and just replied with “Bro😳😳😳”. Like… I’m curious why are you fixated on that word. It killed the convo for me, cause I’ve waited for a few minutes and he never followed up.

I’m still talking to the guy when I use bro, and I use it in my daily vocabulary when speaking to people, friend or stranger alike, and in person they’re receptive regardless. Even when flirting IRL. I’m genuinely curious if it’s considered a “dating” /“flirting” faux pas or if I’m just over thinking it or if the guy is just overreacting?

  1. Guys call each other bro. If you call someone that, they will think you just see them as a friend and they will likely invest time in other people.

  2. For what’s worth, I find « bro » to have a mildly negative connotation.

I wouldn’t make a fuss about it, but I wouldn’t take it as something positive.

Alas, I’m not in USA, never been there( so adjust the cultural miscalculation).

  3. Not sure here but I think it might indicate a romantic distance.
What I mean is that some girls might say bro to someone to clearly indicate that they are only friends and won’t be anything more.

  4. I say dude but opposite you I grew up hanging out with guys as friends in California so that’s what we say! It’s a struggle because we just think we are speaking normal to us and then whoops, we offended somebody
