A Poem

Handrails

The handrails guiding us up or down,
Assisting the old, the young,
The weak, the sick,
To ascend life’s stages
Toward >> sex, or caring, or love or —

To Descend the steps,
Toward >>safety, or security, or rest —

As we progress in time or regress in strength or balance,
Straight or bent,
The rail curves around our bodies.

A handrail is a symbol of our bodies’ Present Value.
