At least this occurred in antique Greece when Antinoo, a young student from Asia Minor, was introduced to the court of Emperor Hadrian and became his favorite. The emperor fell so in love with him he had him at his side during the inspection of Africa, in Greece during Athen’s Eleusinian Mysteries and again during the mythical hunt and kill of the Sacred Lion of Cyrene in Libya. And it was during their adventure on the Nile that Antinoo fell off board, mysteriously, drowning. Jealousy? Hadrian’s love though was too big to die and he made him into a God, to be worshipped forever in the form of Osiris in his newly built city of Antinoopolis where games in his memories we held for centuries to come. A –man– Emperor and his –man– love… writing history and conquering the world.
