Dating : Goldie and the Gang

h2>Dating : Goldie and the Gang

Melony Gallant

Nat was planning to go to her weekly “meetings” with her buddy, Angie -who I’d heard a lot about, and her other buddies who were also part of their motorcycle club.

I didn’t want to go along in fear that I’d be stuck at some bar with a bunch of tough guys telling me about their stories about how they once killed a guy, ending up with a bar fight and who knows what else.

Okay, so yes I saw that in movies. But still it probably wasn’t far from the truth!

But just before she was to leave I sort of changed my mind. I mean, I didn’t want to be alone here in this house all by myself.

Nat actually seemed surprisingly happy that I was going with. I’d never actively been a part of her biker lifestyle — only hearing about it now and then but now for the first time I was actually going to be around them.

Nat assured me on our way that they were really nice.

And I immediately knew I shouldn’t have taken her word for it when I finally got to meet them. In a dodgy looking bar, just as I expected.

Nat introduced me to all of them and they seemed even scary than I first thought. I felt hella intimidated and just wanted to go home.

“Come on,” Nat said to me. “We’re going.”

“Wait, aren’t we going to stay here?” I asked confused.

She laughed.

“No, we don’t hang out here. Saber works here part time. We just came to pick him up.”

Still confused we all drove to one of the scary looking dude’s house.

I wondered silently why they weren’t adorned with black leather, spikes and biker boots. And why above all, they were driving in cars instead of on their bikes.

But maybe the last thing was a good thing. The thought of riding on Nat’s bike made me shrivel up inside.

When we arrived the house looked pretty normal.

Saber greeted his fiancé and she was super nice. Which was weird. Surprisingly she didn’t have a bunch of tats and piercings too.

It must’ve been weird for them to walk around with her dressed like a proper bookworm and him with all his scary looking tats.

But just like with most things in life, I was wrong about them.

To my surprise we spent the night having a movie night, eating dip and chips and talking about anything under the sun.

They were really friendly. I felt kind of bad that I didn’t think they would be. Maybe I was too quick to judge people.

I almost laughed when I heard what movie we were watching.

But the others just grumbled annoyed.

“It’s Chains night to pick and he really likes soppy romantic comedies,” Nat explained. “It always ends with him crying like a baby.”

Nat rolled her eyes and eye gawked in the direction of Chains.

The thing that made this even weirder was the fact that Chains looked the toughest of all of them. He was a huuuuge guy with big muscles and mean looking eyes. And he probably had more tats then I ever saw on a person.

And somehow through the movie it came that Chains and I were the only ones that enjoyed it and totally nerd out romantic movies.

And yes I had to admit I sort of wiped a small tiny tear at the end of the movie too.

Afterwards we played board games and honestly Chains and I were pretty much like best friends by that point.

He really loved kids and couldn’t wait to be a dad one day.

“It’s just I haven’t been able to find a nice girl, you know. People get intimidated by my looks.

I put a gently hand on his strong shoulder.

“Don’t worry. I’m sure the right girl will accept you just as you are.”

“Thanks, Blaire,” he said. “You know since you’re one of us now, you should have a biker name too.”

I laughed.

“I don’t think any name would really fit with me. I mean look at me,” I pointed to my outfit that was pretty much all pink.

He laughed gruffly.

“There are some names that could fit you too.”

“Maybe Claws,” another bike girl chimed in. “I mean look at those nails!”

Nat laughed.

“I’m thinking more like Banshee.”

“Why?” I asked.

“Because you snore like one,” she said pointedly.

“I do not!” I looked at the others. “I promise, I don’t!”

“I’m thinking more like Goldie,” another guy called Buzz (with a buzz cut) said. “Because of the hair.”

“You know, I actually like that one,” I said smiling.

“Well, then that’s your new name,” Chains said.

“Should I wear black leather now?” I asked.

They all laughed.

“Maybe don’t go that overboard just yet,” Nat said.

Angie was also really nice and I find out that her Biker name was Angel. And I couldn’t believe that I didn’t even know Nat’s biker name before.

Hers was Lashes.

“Why Lashes?” I asked.

“Because she has long lashes that make her look like a Barbie doll,” Angie said teasingly.

Nat rolled her eyes and took a sip of her soda.

“So how long have you two been going out?” A girl called Bonnie asked.

Nat coughed on her drink and I just stood there speechless.

They thought we were…dating!

“Actually, we’re not,” I finally said. “We’re just friends.”

“Oh,” Bonnie said. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to make you guys uncomfortable.”

“It’s alright,” I said trying to laugh it off.

But it did make me wonder on the way back home. Was that how people saw us? How many people have seen us and thought that very same thing?

And why did that bother me so much?
