I almost cried the entire trip to campus, but between the initial greyhound and bus transfer, I became distracted and tired.
Leaving behind an environment that was toxic and abusive, I’ve managed to graduate high school early and enter early at university. The emotions I experience are from leaving behind friends and a comfort zone of social extracurricular activities and what I was used to.
Arriving in Ithaca, well after six in the evening, I am greeted by a campus advisor, student ambassador, as well as few other freshmen, we were escorted to a pavilion to be assisted in the registration.
“Hey! Good evening, I am Scott Thomas. If you don’t mind, I’ll be assisting you in check in, housing, and registration.”
Scott had to be an upperclassman from his demeanor and approach. He also sported a University athletic sweatsuit which had to be from the basketball team.
“Can I get your name?’ He asks
“Cambridge Russell. Early admission. Chem major.” I hand him a small booklet that contained my ID information and my housing information.
“Wow!! You’re staying in the campus apartments, good choice. Seriously! The housing options are amazing here at Cornell yet the new apartment complex in which you’ll reside is all single occupancy and lofty.
I understood what I was already getting into when it came to my housing and board. I’ve also managed to pre-register with an divisor online. Fortunately, I wouldn’t mind the company and acquaintance.
After a few minutes, Scott confirms my registration and he insist we head toward campus central to the bookstore so he can introduce me to a friend of his.
I notice the immense beauty of architecture and nature, as well as the scent of fresh air. Approaching a small bookstore, we enter and head toward the back. Entering a pretty sized office, we are abruptly greeted.
