The decrease in human activity during COVID-19 lockdown created human-associated vibrations in the Earth to decline by half the level between March and May 2020. It proved so beneficial to human life in protecting from the hazardous Earthquake.

There is a restful period because of COVID-19 social distancing measures.There is no services, unemployment, no factories, no mining, no companies, no corporations,no firms, no companies, and negative tourism. This restful period is researched as the never recorded and noticeable peaceful period of seismic noise in research history.

Many research showed that the intensity of ‘seismic noise’ ( It is the noise of vibrations in the earth.)influenced by humans was more noticeable in heavily populated areas.

Due to the stillness in human activity, the researchers were able to listen to previously hidden earthquake signals. Hence they were able to see the distinguishing features between human noise vibrations and natural seismic noise.

Networks of seismometers were used for further investigations. Researchers also investigated the impact of human activities on Earth. They differentiated the human and natural Earth noise.

Seismic noise travels like waves within the earth. The waves are measured by vibrations within the earth due to earthquakes, volcanoes, bombs, and human activities like companies, corporations, factories, businesses, and travel.

There has not been decrease in the reduction in the earthquakes. But there has been an unusual reduction in seismic noise due to the stillness in the human activity. Sensors buried hundreds of metres underground showed a remarkable reduction in waves in urban areas and in more isolated areas.

Human-generated noise usually decreases during Holidays, Christmas, New Year, and Weekends. Nonetheless, the drop in vibrations is also seen in COVID-19 lockdown.

The researchers looked at seismic data from a network of 268 seismic stations in 117 countries and found noise reductions compared to before the lockdown. Began in China in late January 2020, and followed by Europe and the rest of the world in March to May as worldwide lockdown began.

The large drops in vibrations were seen in populated areas, like Singapore and New York City and also seen in remote areas like Germany’s Black Forest and in educational places.

But now the noise has increased as work has started.

Because of this they have got an idea that human based noise has its impact on the vibrations and the lockdown made them record the natural vibrations within earth by ignoring that human based noise.

The unheard earthquake vibrations are recorded properly on seismometers in urban areas during this lockdown time. Clear signals are noticed.

The researchers said, the lockdown quietening could also help them differentiate between human-created noise and natural signals. Hence might warn us before the upcoming natural disasters.

The researchers also pointed out that population and industrialization results in life near geologically hazardous areas, which could be harmful for living. Hence it is necessary to distinguish the human-created voice and natural earthquakes vibration. There will be better monitoring of the signals and more studies will be done on this.
