Dating : In the Morning Light

As Mirryn pulled the door to Navi’s room closed behind her, she considered her next move. She did not want to go back to her own room and walk in on Dai and Kiara having a lazy morning. Something sweet caught her attention and she started down the stairs in search of breakfast.

To her surprise, Dai and Kiara were at a small table in the common room of the inn. Dai waved her over, and Kiara hopped up and headed to grab another coffee cup. As she sat Dai explained that Kiara’s coffee shop had started providing breakfast for the inn. Mirryn suddenly realized she was starving as she waited for Kiara to return with what was sure to be a delicious treat.

After a few moments Mirryn realized Kiara was intentionally lingering over the pastries. She took a deep breath and began to tell Dai about her night. She tried to tone down her excitement over Navi, for fear of hurting Dai, but he reached for her hand as she spoke.

“Lass,” he said quietly, looking deeply into her eyes, “I can see the joy in you, and it’s beautiful. I am nothing but happy for you, and Kiara will be too.”

Just then Kiara returned with a heaping plate of pastries and a steaming coffee. Mirryn attempted to seem half ladylike as she devoured the food and Dai told Kiara about Navi.

Mirryn set her coffee cup on the table and suddenly felt thin arms wrapped around her shoulders. Kiara had lept up and embraced her. Mirryn couldn’t hide her shock.

“I’m so happy for you darling! When do we meet him?” Kiara asked as she sat back down. Her honey colored eyes sparkled as she took her seat again. Long curls spilled into her face, and Dai reached to sweep them back.

“Right now, if it’s suitable,” came that silky voice that sent a thrill to Mirryn’s core.

Dai and Kiara welcomed Navi to the table and the four of them spent a lovely morning chatting and getting to know each other. Mirryn looked around at the three people before her and thought her heart might actually burst. Just a few years before, she couldn’t have imagined this life. She just knew that she never felt settled, never felt like she belonged. And now here she was, with three beautiful people to love, and the normally reserved Elf wanted to shout her joy from the rooftops.

A sudden chill shot through her as she realized that soon she would leave this place, and two of these people. Her face fell, but she quickly replaced her smile. She didn’t know that Dai had noticed, and he was determined to fix whatever had caused her momentary pain.
