Jonas fastens the chain that holds the travelers stone around his neck and tucks it inside his shirt. When it touches his skin it begins to give off a soft bluish glow and he can feel a tingling against his chest that leaves him with a nervous assurance of its power. As Leland walks his two guests to the door he once again issues the warning against borrowing dreamscapes and urges Jonas to instead have Lacey escort him home so he can fallow a path to his son through Verity Parks. Jonas seals his promises with a handshake as he and Lacey leave the store and step once again into the sunlit mall.

The time spent with Leland Meriwether leaves Jonas with as many questions as he has answers, “so Lacey, now we use your dreamscape to get me home,” “yes, tomorrow after rehearsals, but you must understand that my dreamscape will take us back to where I was the last time I used it. I found that out the hard way when I fell asleep on the bus going home from your shop. When the dreamscape brought me back I was again on the same bus. Thank God there was no one else on board, but I scared the poor driver half to death. From that time on, in the real world, I use it only when I’m alone. But here, in the dreamworld,” she pulls the dreamscape from her pocket and holds it over them, “anything goes.”

When Jonas and Lacey step from under the Promenade archway Leland’s sunny afternoon gives way to Lacey’s preferred darkness, “what just happened,” asked Jonas, “this is my world,” Lacey smirks, “and I have an urge to mingle with the night.” Jonas gives a tentative nod and turns around to see only a long dark alleyway where the sunlit mall had been. “I always find my hunger in the dark,” says Lacey as she takes his arm and pulls him along, “how about we go get a thick steak and a well mixed drink,” “that sounds great, ” he agrees as they round the corner to her favorite bar and grill.

Over dinner they discuss how Jonas can have a car and driver tomorrow to take him all around the city and show him the sights while Lacey is in rehearsal, “then we can meet up at my apartment to make the journey home.” As she speaks her voice cracks, “I miss my family so much, I guess fame and fortune are not all their cracked up to be, and hearing the music doesn’t make me a better dancer. On the contrary, it’s feeling the music that I love and it’s something that I just can’t find here no matter how hard I look. The genuine love of the real world is so much more fulfilling. I really want to see this project through but after that,” she wipes tears from her eyes, “I just don’t know, I guess it’s like they always say, be careful what you wish for.
