Amatullah Kaunain

Love
Isn’t a fleeting moment of lust
For me.
It is the eternal stitch
On the tapestry of life
With a thread of gold.
It hold the weight of happiness
Heavier than the whole cosmos,
And the warmth and grace of an immortal hearth,
A flame so gentle.
It is more delicate
Than the weaving of each strand of hair
On a newborn’s head.
More intricate and personal
Than the amber flecked iris
Of a pair of hazel eyes.
It blooms unexpectedly
Like jasmine buds on a spring day.
Love is infinite
Like the number of stars on the blackest of nights,
And makes a sound:
The low hum of the universe,
For love is the universe’s very existence.
Its core.
And at each core,
Lies a soul.
We are all infinite universes,
Infinite souls
Connected by the red strings of fate.
Paths interwoven,
Forever drawn to each other,
Delicately balanced
Like a raindrop on the tip of a leaf.
Gravitating,
Circling.
And when that balance tips,
The drop falls and souls collide,
A star dies
And the universe roars.
