Dating : Ola & The Mountain

h2>Dating : Ola & The Mountain

Mica Montana

There was a sheep called Ola that lived with other sheep in the valley of a mountain. One day, the shepherd came to them and said that that day they were all going to climb the mountain. Rumblings of fear spread out amongst the sheep because the mountain seemed so tall but the shepherd encouraged them. He said that although the climb would test them, they had everything that they needed within them in order to make it to the top. He also reassured them by saying that if one of them got lost, he would make sure to come and find the lost one and help them so that no one was left behind. Ola was comforted by this and along with the others he began to climb. The first part of the climb was steep and he almost gave up, but pacing himself he was able to make it. He trusted the shepherd and believed him when he had said that Ola and the others could get to the top so he persevered.

At the resting point, he met a sheep that he had never seen before. He was wearing a tophat and spoke in very pointed way. He gave Ola a book about mountain climbing and said that it would help him to understand the science of mountains. Ola said thank you and put it inside of his satchel. As he kept walking he was surprised to be approached by many different sheep, each who offered him something different. One sheep had watches on every leg and gave one to Ola saying that it was important to make sure Ola counted every second. Another sheep who only had one ear offered him berries that would make him stronger. Another offered him shoes that would make him get to the top faster. Another sheep with stained purple wool and a beautiful voice offered him magical mushrooms that were to help him experience the mountain before he got there. Another offered him a map of the mountain and said that it would help him to avoid danger. Ola wondered why he would need to follow a map if he always just followed the shepherd but he took it anyway, believing that if others were giving these things to him it was because he needed them. He took all of these things thinking they would help but as he walked, they began to slow him down.

The berries made his stomach hurt. The mountain climbing book confused him. The mushrooms clouded his vision. The watch was too tight. The boots were too heavy on his feet and when he took his eyes off the shepherd to look at the map, he got bit by a mountain snake, the pain of which made him fall flat on his face. There was a trickle of blood flowing from where he’d been bitten but there was no one around to him to help him up. He could see the silhouette of the shepherd getting smaller and smaller as the others carried on towards the mountains peak and he laid there in the dust.

A grey cloud passed over him. He had almost made it to the top, he was one of the first at one point, he had a good pace now he was stuck and left behind. Ola began to cry. When the cloud passed and a ray of light replaced the grey shadow cast over him, Ola remembered what the shepherd had said: that he had everything within him that he needed to make it to the top. He took off the boots, put down the map and the book and opened his satchel. Inside was water that the shepherd had given to them all before they started up the mountain. He drank some to quench his thirst and his mind started to clear. He used the rest to wash his wound and the pain in his back-left foot began to ease. Feeling much freer, he stood up to face the mountain and, in the distance, he saw the shepherd descending, on his way to find him.
