Pug Life

I rescued a pug from the streets last July. She is a beautiful girl that did not deserve to be abandoned in the streets especially during the summer. It was about 108 degrees that day meaning the concrete was hot. Her paws were badly peeled and I discovered that she had recently given birth because of a caesarean scar with stitches on her belly.

I named her Fury after Nick Fury from avengers. I believed it fit her because she is a fighter and she endured lots of hardships. Fury came with lots of traumas due to her past owners. She wouldn’t want my boyfriend near her because she would attack him. She also fears the dark. That makes me wonder if her abusers had her in a dark room.

We met a woman who bred pugs and she told me that Fury was bred really young probably her first heat and that stunted her growth. The c-section she had also decreased her life span. It still infuriates me to think how a person could do that to an innocent dog.

Fury is such a happy dog and loves being outdoors. We have been working with her to trust other humans other than myself and my boyfriend. She’s a vicious little dog that does not let any other dog bully her. She’s like a little fire cracker.

What really helped her was our other dog who was about two months old when we adopted her. She helped Fury grow and trust us. Fury learned to be a happy dog despite everything she went through.

What I want to leave readers with is: love your dog. Treat them with care. Dogs have so many feelings and they can feel pain from abuse and neglect. Hug your dog to let them know they are wanted and love. It took Fury about a year, but she has grown so much with us and I would not trade her for anything.
