Rest in Peace as Loved in Life

How do we say ‘goodbye’
Before we die?
How do we bid a final adieu
To all those we loved and knew?
How do we close the curtains
On life and to the living?
What’s the most touching last line
We can write and leave behind
A postmark for posterity?
It’s such an impossible task
To close the book
On the last page of our own life
It’s even more difficult
To witness another life pass
Why must we allow death
To make life so meaningless?
If only we had the perfect ending
If only we had a perfect way to end
The question of what is life
Would our own lives be filled with extra purpose and more meaning
Instead we must all succumb
To an abrupt full stop
We must all accept the sudden ending
To a pulsating vibrant creative force
As it comes, as it takes us
Hoping that while we had a chance
While we were full of life and energy and strong heartbeats
We lived well, we loved enough and we laughed as much as we possibly could.
