POF : Bogus numbers of people interested or viewed me?
I had let my paid account lapse, as it wasn’t getting much attention… but then I saw that supposedly 27 people had liked me etc. so I decided to pay for a bit longer… Now it really seems like this is false advertising…
My profile shows 99+ people as being supposedly interested in me, yet only shows me 25 people when I try to browse the list… likewise it shows me 27 people as having viewed me … yet only shows me the 25 people that have viewed, just a few of which have actually expressed interest by liking me… I sent a message to tech support asking just what was going on… and got back a useless message that had as it’s subject « Information on how to delete your Plenty of Fish account »… which of course had nothing to do with my questions…
Has anyone gotten a competent response out of tech support, or know just what their actual algorithms are?

I don’t have an answer to your question, but I feel your frustration. I just signed up a few days ago and the majority of all the people I can « like » or who are « interested in me » are from a different state. I live in a major city, so naturally I expected more results that were near me. I messaged tech and I got back a response about using the « my city » tab, which also shows me people in different parts of the state, and other states entirely.
Little peeved, since I paid to use this site. I also hate that I keep getting the same accounts even when I hit « no » in the meet me tab. Honestly, I think they are showing you the high numbers to try to sucker you into paying for your account again. That all being said, I’m a realist (read: cynic) so I don’t expect much out of the site in general. At least not everyone seems to be a bot…
Take its advice and delete it, half the time the girls on there don’t even make an effort to meet conversations half way. I’m not a Don Juan, but fuck they could try harder to keep the conversation going
It’s bullshit. It’s literally impossible for any human being to create fake profiles on POF. Because of the verification thing. You have to sign up using a phone number and then have a security code texted to that phone number. Well, what happens if you only have one cell phone? You are screwed. You can’t use Google Voice’s phone number. You can go online and try 20-30 different temporary phone number websites, but none of them will work. So the only real way to get a new fake POF account is to buy a new phone. How much does a phone cost? It’s been ages since I bought one, but I doubt that you can get a new phone with minutes on it for less than $50. And yet there are millions of fake profiles on POF. Are these really fake profiles made by weirdos who went out and bought extra $50 phones? No. That’s why POF sucks. They are run by greedy people who use every deceitful act that they can think of to try and generate more revenue. There is nothing wrong with trying to maximize profits, but it is definitely wrong to use deceitful tactics to do so. I wish that there was ONE honest dating site out there that didn’t use the whole fake profile views, fake profiles, fake likes, fake messages, fake favorites, fake everything else bullshit. It’s so lazy and despicable. I’m sure that they can think of more honest ways of getting people to spend money. Like how on Camfrog you can gift people stupid stickers and stuff. That would be more honest, and tons of guys would buy stickers and other gifts for females that they were interested in.
So… the problem is still unresolved, and I’ve now had 3 completely mistaken understandings from different tech support people, that I supposedly was asking to delete my account… and I’m now wondering if that is their default, or if there’s just some bot script that has decided that it’s cheaper to steer customers to delete their account than deal with the actual bugs in their system??? I’ll note that there was no mention of a refund..
