POF : Has Anyone Else Seen These Types of Profiles?

POF : Has Anyone Else Seen These Types of Profiles?

New to Plenty of Fish and I’m truly needing a sanity check here, because I’m unsure if I’ve stumbled across a series of coincidental occurrences or if I’m receiving cons from elaborate profile set-ups.

I received two messages from women, both with only three photos each on their profiles. One of them had a Snapchat posted to her profile asking for anyone to add, the other asked for my number to text.

So I add the one on Snapchat. The conversation seemed very normal and like we were getting along well, however, after a while she tells me to join her premium snapchat and that’s when I started feeling like it was a red flag. I asked her if that was all she wanted me for and she said no but she also wanted me to see her content. This makes me suspicious and unsure if I’ve been long-gamed or if this is just some broke girl who is needing a guy to pay her bills and so she offers explicit pics of herself to guys to get by, or if it’s some random dude truly playing a galaxy brain con on a gullible sap such as myself. This girl seemed real enough to me talking wise but when you come down to it nothing is really true that people say over the internet until you see them in person and looking back at the conversation it is quite shallow and heavy in flattery…

The other girl didn’t get back to me until this morning, and even then she told me she had to go to work and that she’d have to get back to me later. So I still have very little faith in whether or not this girl is real or if it’s another fake profile that collected my phone number to possibly scam me down the line.

And not only those two, but I tried OkCupid out as well and added a girl’s Snapchat she advertised on her account, and right off the bat after adding her profile she goes asking me for money to pay for food, and that she’s living out of a hotel (she sent me pics and had pics on her story of her in a hotel room) and how she needs a certain amount by a certain time to get a ‘deal’ for her room.

And this girl also has the same strange time gap in between her text messages, and what’s bizarre is this girl has full social media accounts that don’t look fake at all. So she looks legit but fake at the same time?

I just wanted to post my experiences with dating apps so far here because honestly I feel like I need a sanity check from others who have spent time on these apps. Am I running into repeated fake profiles that are set up to look legit but are just falsely made to reel desperate dudes in? I know I’m a gullible guy but honestly these are not the average copy/paste accounts of random pictures with bad english, these seem like way more advanced scams if they are the case.

It’s also possible they are truly just desperate women themselves in need of financial help, but I find it unusual that I would bump into that many from the get go, but who knows, I guess these dating apps don’t always harvest the best types of people.

  1. anyone requesting you to join a different service is trying to milk you one way or another. Some are desperate most are scamming you.

  2. Offer to meet them for dinner, your treat. If they are as desperate as they say, they will appreciate the free meal and then you can meet them, verify that they are real, and decide what to do from there.

Don’t get your hopes up, they are probably scammers though. But, they could possibly be local and real just trying to get money from you too.

  3. As a real women who used OLD a lot and havr hrard horror stories from dudes on my dates…those are all scammers.

When I was ready to exhange contacts with someone I offered them.a choicr so they’d know I wasn’t a scammer. « Hey would you like to chat off here, I have IG, snapchat, or Messenger « . I prefer snapshots I don’t have to give out my full name and phone number in its less personal I can control more… But I’m always leery of seeming like a scammer so I give a choice.

  4. I think it’s a scam. I had somebody message me asking for my hangouts thing. I gave it to her, only to have her « invite » me to her site. Turns out to be a porn thing. No thanks.
