The answer, I figured out by creating alternate accounts, is that POF hardline restricts you, from even seeing or being able to contact anyone outside of what they deem to be your age range.
And the women in my age range (30’s)? As far as I can tell, they’re 100% single mothers, who want to go to dinner on the first date. sorry, that’s just not how its done.
I thought there was a shortage of women in their 20s in my area. Nope! Create a younger account and boom, there they are. So my choice is to be dishonest about age, or never speak to them. Great choice thanks POF.

Yeah POF really has an issue with men messaging women it considers to be too young. No such restriction for women though. I’ve been messaged out of the blue by women in their 50s (I’m 27). On my true profile it wont let me message anybody whos 18 with only a 9 year age gap. Which sucks because when I was 18 all the 18 year old girls wanted to date guys in their late 20s and y’know college girls are pretty hot. I found it’ll also show me people it thinks are appropriate and hide away those it doesnt. I’m not sure how that works as i’m always down as a smoker, same height, weight and earnings range. But on the younger profile it shows me alot more women of all ages than it does on my true profile.
I think they go by the half your age +7 rule because I am 33 almost 34 and I can’t see any body under 22.
I thought it was set by the young ladies? i mean, not all college girls want to go on a date with a 30 or 40 something. I want to believe you that POF is filtering it. but some girls are just that shallow.
Then how are 21yr olds getting matched with 35yr olds on POF. I have seen success stories from POF from people who had a huge age gap between them and they met on POF.
