POF : why do half of the women have messaging disabled?

   They prefer to message first.

   They are currently dating/speaking with someone and are not interested in anyone else at this time.

   In the end it does not matter why they have their profiles set like that and concerning yourself with such is focusing on the people who you can not connect with, which is counter productive.

   If you want to be successful on a dating site, step one is to not worry about the people you can not date, as it is a complete waste of time.

2. Most like to get on there to boost their egos and prolly wouldnt reply even if you could message them

3. They’re fake accounts. Messaging isn’t disabled, it’s only disabled unless you’re a paid account – POF wants you to pay so you can message them.

4. The messaging disabled message also comes up automatically, if there is more than a 14-year age difference.
