POF : Why so many smokers on POF
According to surveys the smoking rate in the U.S has plummeted over the years and is now down to a record low 14%. Yet smokers are extremely common on POF. I took a count on a large sample of profiles and found a huge 45% of those on POF smoke either regularly or occasionally.
45% vs. 14%. What a massive difference. For the record I don’t smoke but am not an anti-smoker. I don’t care if anyone smokes. It’s not a deal breaker for me. Yet I still find this 45% figure to be rather shocking.
Why would so many people on POF smoke? All I can guess is it has to do with social class. Smoking is more common among those with lower income and lower education. I also read that smoking rates are high among single mothers. Of course POF is known for having a lower class userbase and tons of single moms so I suppose this explains it as well as anything.

I once met girl on another dating app who selected non-smoker on her profile and it turned out while I was getting to know her that she smoked most evenings. It wasn’t just the kissing that was a bit ewww but the fact my clothes started to smell of stale smoke. She was of the opinion that if someone got to know her properly they would overlook the fact she basically lied.
I’m guessing marijuana smokers are including themselves as smokers and that could be a big percentage of it?
