Personally, I do this because I was hurt badly in my last relationship, and falling for someone is still terrifying for me. It doesn’t make any sense, I know.
It’s deep though. I once got out of the shower before a date, then laid down in bet for 45 minutes, unable to move, until I showed up late and she was already over me. We met up and went to a party.
At that party, another girl was hitting on both me and my friend. I let me friend have her, since I’m moving away soon anyway.
I keep meeting fantastic women and then set about destroying any chance of ever being truly close to them.

I do this also. It’s driven by fear. Fear of ruining a good image you think you instilled that person. Afraid of ruining a positive experience.
Currently on the « deleted tinder » phase of the viscous tinder cycle, and I have to say that this is one of the big reasons why. I’ve just come to terms with the fact that not everyone is a decent person lol. Eh, live and learn though.
