POF : Seeking DIGITAL DATERS – Volunteers for photography thesis project!

Are you a Digital Dater who uses OkCupid, Match.com, Tinder, JDate, Zoosk, or any other digital dating website or app?
Are you between the age of 21 and 30?
Do you live in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)?

If you answered yes to all of the above, I am looking for YOU! I am a 4th year, undergrad photography student producing my thesis project between now and March 2015 and I need YOU!

Hundreds of studies have examined how we, as digital daters, respond and react to each other’s photographs and how we choose to represent ourselves in our own photos in order to portray ourselves in a way we think will best help us to attract potential mates.
I am seeking volunteering digital daters to volunteer just one hour of their time to come to my university’s studio and let me take a studio portrait of you. You will also be required to send me a digital copy of the photo that you use as your dating profile photo. NO NAMES (email, real or username) will be included. If you are interested, please reply to this ASAP!!

This portrait:
– will be a head/shoulders portrait, showing from mid-upper arm to the top of your head
– will require that you wear no additional makeup or hairstyling – as natural as possible please!
– will require that you let me photograph you bare-shouldered (set will be mostly blocked off, and I will have a blanket to tie around anyone under their arms/across chest if they are uncomfortable)
– will require that you look straight-on into the camera with a neutral expression

If you can fulfill all of the requirements above, please respond ASAP!! Volunteers will receive a hard copy print and a digital file for their own personal use!

If you used to digital date, but no longer do, you can also participate so long as you can re-enable/re-activate your account and forward me the profile information you had. (This is vital for the purpose of the project.)

A little bit about me: I have been a digital dater for 7 months and have become very interested and curious about the way our society interacts with and through technology. I have put out feelers on a few dating sites as well, but need more people in as short a time as possible..hence I’ve come here. I want to make it clear that I am a legitimate digital dater, not an « exploitative outsider ». I am genuinely interested in the ideas and interactions of digital dating and want to specifically examine the roles of self-representation and perception of others by means of my thesis project.
