h2>Dating : All together Now: How a Movie Helped Me Reflect on Receiving Help.
All together now had this central theme of how individuals accept help. Some take it wholeheartedly, others ask confidently while a faction cannot bear the thought of asking in the first place. Not because they don’t like it but because they’re not sure how to react. I could relate to the main character, Amber.
Who doesn’t want to be self sufficient? You do. I do. We all do. Understandably, it’s a hood desire. Yet the reality is life isn’t steady and there’s no shame in asking for help when necessary.
A helping hand, prayer, guide, some financial assistance, advice, revision, ears that listen. Help.
Watching Amber, I could see me(you’ll probably see you as well). My unwillingness to ask for help even in times I knew I should have. It’s almost ironic how we always want to show up for others. For instance, when serving my student association 2 years ago, I prided myself in giving help and thought receiving it meant I was weak. Yup, same me!
It just didn’t feel right to ask. Bless my sweet team members. They would always remind me, “You know that’s why you have a team right?” I would rant and cry, yet shy away from asking. It took a toll on me and thankfully, they took the bull by the horns and helped anyway.
Now to some lessons I curated from my experience with this movie.
