h2>Dating : Coffee in Our Cups
Every morning
I make coffee
I have the beans
The grinder
Sometimes I use the fancy pour over
Most days I use the plain old Mr. Coffee machine
My husband says why
Why is this always bitter
I say it really isn’t
It’s fine
I put in sugar, mocha mix, creamer, milk
Not all at once, but usually a combo of two
Still bitter, he says
He asks for freeze dried Folgers
Instant
Powdered coffee
And this is good to him
This is coffee to him
He said it is what his grandparents used to drink
It reminds him of the late 60’s and early 70’s
Of being a boy
I say my grandparents drank this stuff too
In the 80’s, early 90’s
We are both Gen X
Even though he insists in a teasing fashion that I am somehow
A Millennial
Sources say, survey says, no, he opens the Generation, and I close it
A span of 15 years between us
But we always find ways
To connect
To enjoy
To share in sweet moments that are just our own
Across any divide
across any gap
Even if we are each drinking different coffee
In our cups
