“Look at that,” the elegant, pensive woman with braided hair marveled, pointing at a couple with their newborn baby. “Isn’t that just beautiful? Those amazing humans, bringing new life into that sad world.”

“Whatever,” said the short-haired, hot-tempered tomboy. “Their world is already overpopulated as is! Why bring another stupid human into it? And now that kid’s gonna learn all the bad things about the world.” She scoffed. “Y’know, Desire, I’ll never get just how foolish those humans really are.”

The two False humans looked down on the Real humans from atop their eternal prison, the Realm. Desire rested a hand on her face and sighed longingly.

“I wish I could be a Real human,” Desire said sadly. “This feeling of loneliness… I just want to belong…”

“Geez, how many times have we had this conversation?!” the tomboy yelled, exasperated. “Why don’t you stop wishing for worldly desires and do something about it?!”

“You know we cannot do that.”

“Then quit complaining! Sometimes you’re as stupid as they are.”

Desire said nothing, but continued to glance down on the humans beneath them.

The scene changed; at school, a small boy was being bullied by other, bigger boys. The small boy began crying, while the other boys laughed.

“That poor thing,” Desire said. “I wish someone could help him…”

“Hah! He doesn’t need help,” laughed the tomboy. “That runt will get over it, Hell, maybe that runt will take out the other brats someday! Revenge is great; it’s one of the only things those pathetic humans have got going for them.”

“Revenge is not the answer,” Desire said sternly. “It will only make those humans worse over time.”

“Then the runt needs to defend himself! Prove that he’s a real man! Stand up to those brats with his power!” The tomboy began punching the air, as if to demonstrate.

Desire sighed. “If the boy does that, it will only corrupt him. You have seen the results of those people. Unrealistic societal expectations forced upon them at such a young and tender age. He needs not prove himself to others, and especially not with violence.”

“Psh… What a waste,” lamented the tomboy, putting her fists down. “You’re not just gonna let him take the abuse, will ya?”

“Of course not. Surely there’s an adult to help hi — ”

“Hey, newsflash! There aren’t any adults around to help him. See?!” The tomboy pointed; the bullied boy went to a nearby adult, but she merely brushed him off without offering to help or reprimanding the bullies. The small boy ran inside a nearby bathroom stall to cry; the bullies followed, still laughing.

“Adults are useless,” said the tomboy. “You ask them for help, and they won’t help you. They’re lazy, or stupid, or ignorant, or — ”

“Not all adults are like that.”

“Well, when that runt needed an adult the most, she failed him. What the hell do you expect, Desire? Wake up and get that pretty head of yours out of the clouds. The world is a cruel place. Not everyone gives a damn.”

The two sat in silence for a while, each lost in their thoughts.

The scene changed again; a woman was sitting in shock, grieving the end of her relationship. Her heart had shattered into a million pieces.

“Heartbreak is one of life’s hardest lessons,” Desire said sadly. “I just hope she can pick herself back up again…”

“Well, she has to!” said the tomboy. “She can’t just sit around and be mopey forever. Hell, she oughta be back on her feet by tomorr — ”

“Humans cannot recover that quickly nor easily from heartbreak,” Desire interrupted. “It will take some time for her to find herself again, and who she truly is in the midst of her grief and hardship.”

“Oh, please,” said the tomboy. “She ain’t gonna stop living just ’cause of a minor setback like this!”

“She will continue living, but this was no minor setback,” Desire countered. “She poured her heart and soul into this. I can only hope she believes this was not all for nothing. There is always something to be gained from loss.”

“Yeah, like who not to trust next time!” the tomboy spat. “She trusted someone completely, and it sucker punched her in the gut, just like that! Talk about being blindsided…”

“These things happen in life, and unfortunately, they are more common than you think,” said Desire. “For whatever reason, sometimes things do not work out. And sometimes, there is no reason. This was not her fault, and she knows that. She will learn to move forward by herself, she will become a stronger person, she will learn what she can do better next time, and in due time, she will find someone who can reciprocate the love she now knows she is capable of.”

“Psh… Sometimes you give humans too much credit,” the tomboy said, smirking.

The scene changed once again; now the two False humans were witnessing a funeral. They could see the wife of the deceased holding her young daughter, both sobbing endless tears.

“Those poor humans,” Desire mused.

“Psh,” spat the tomboy. “Wasting energy on such trivial matters like death. Come on!”

“You do not understand,” said Desire. “Those humans lost someone very dear to them — “

“So get another human!” said the tomboy, throwing her hands up in the air. “When something bad happens to those stupid humans, all they can rely on are their emotions. They fall into despair and do nothing. It’s pathetic. There are millions of other humans, what’s the difference?”

“That fallen human is irreplaceable,” said Desire.

“Well then, get over it!” said the tomboy. “If someone breaks a plate, they should just go to the store and buy another one. Sheesh. It’s not rocket science. Human stupidity knows no bounds — “

“They are not stupid. And do not objectify them like that,” said Desire sternly.

“Hark who’s talking, you’ve called them stupid before!”

Desire lowered her head. “Yes, I have. And they do make poor choices sometimes.” She raised her head, her eyes burning. “But not all humans act that way. Just because they do not conform to your standards does not make them pathetic, Y — “

“DON’T SAY MY NAME, YOU IDIOT!” the tomboy yelled, her face turning a deep shade of emerald.

“Then do not generalize them,” Desire replied, without the slightest reaction to the tomboy’s sudden change of appearance.

“…Tch.” The tomboy’s face returned to normal. “You don’t get it, Desire. These stupid humans are crying for someone that can’t come back. Instead of being sad or whatever, why don’t they move on?”

“They will move on,” said Desire. “But these humans need to come to terms with what has happened to them before they can do so. You have seen the other humans that try to run away from their feelings? The ones who don’t acknowledge them? Those are your stupid humans. They believe they can suppress their emotions, and when they cannot, they can no longer move on.”

“…”

Desire brushed her hair away. “There are smart humans, and foolish ones. The smart sometimes act foolish, and the foolish can be smart. But they are only humans.”

“Heh… Well, I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree,” said the tomboy. “They’ll always be foolish humans to me.”

The scene changed one last time, showing the couple with the newborn baby from before. They were at a private beach; the baby was now about a year old. They were resting on a large blanket, basking in the warm sunlight, the ocean waves gently crashing on the shore. It was a peaceful moment.

“…”

Desire turned to look at the tomboy; for the first time in a while, the latter had nothing to say. The tomboy had her knees up to her chest, staring at the three Real humans below, knowing that she could never be one of them.

“You wish you had that, don’t you?” Desire asked gently.

“…”

“To be loved and feel love, like they do…”

“…”

“Wanting what we will never have…”

“…”

“Is that true?”

“…”

“…Yearning?”

The tomboy drew her knees closer after hearing her name. Envy and jealousy were coursing through her body, knowing she yearned for what the humans had and knowing she could never have what they did.

“…Those foolish humans will NEVER realize how lucky they really are,” Yearning said quietly. “They throw away their lives for nothing. And then, before they know it, their lives have passed them by.”

She lowered her knees and turned to Desire. “Y’know, Desire, I’ll never get just how foolish those humans really are.”

Desire nodded. “Yes. Foolish humans indeed.”
