I was never told I could conquer the world. I always got lessons on what to do to barely stay above water, out of jail, and alive. The world wasn’t safe for us. As much as I tried to make the world into a safe space for all, reality won. It was hurtful for me to growing up know people have everything at their fingertips and those same people will be working hard to make sure I have nothing to reach for. Those lessons are applicable today. But I’m thankful for them. Had I not been warned, I’d be very disheartened.
