h2>Dating : Profile Pictures

Online dating is about judging people on their looks. How do you decide what picture to put up of yourself? I have tried to go for pictures where its just me and where I am not wearing too much makeup. I don’t want to give the impression that I look like something when in reality I don’t. One of the apps asks that you upload six pictures of yourself. So, I tried to look for some that were most recent. A friend asked if they could see the pictures I have uploaded so I did, I was advised that I should put some full-length pictures so potentials could see my figure as well. I decided this wasn’t for me, having people deciding if they like me on my looks is hard enough let alone someone judging whether or not my body type fits what they are looking for.
Depending on what apps you go on guys have their own interpretations on what profile pictures would attract the ladies. I am sure ladies do the same. Majority of them do put their faces up. I personally think for clarity purposes it is easier if it is a picture of yourself only, I have seen a few profiles where it is groups of guys and I have no idea which one of them the profile belongs to. I have also seen a few where the guy is surrounded by girls. A few of them do say in their blurb that it’s a friend or sister but when they are surrounded by groups of girls it does put me off. The best one so far has to be the guy who has put up a picture of a reduced in price pasty. If that doesn’t lure a girl in, I am not sure what would. One of the more popular apps I found that guys felt its easier to put up pictures of their torsos, they were great to look at, but I couldn’t judge one pec from the other. Although fascinating to see and to think how much exercise one would need to do to look like that, for the plainish ladies like myself it can be a little intimidating. Let’s be honest Mr Pec’s isn’t going to go for someone posing with a fork in their hand with two plates of food in front of them.
While swiping away I came across a profile which intrigued me. All I could see from the picture was someone taking a full-length picture of themselves in what looked like a clothes shop. But that wasn’t what caught my eye, it was more his opening line which was ‘my friends say I look like a Bollywood actor.’ So I thought ok this one looks good, I clicked on his profile and my heart rate jumped to 115 or above in less then 10 seconds. Unfortunately, this was less due to the fact that he looked like a Bollywood actor and more the fact that he was my uncle! After reading through his profile in which he lied about his age and about having kids, and reading that he was looking for ‘adult fun only,’ it’s fair to say I felt traumatised. Worst bit of all is the app tells you who has viewed your profile. I screenshotted the whole thing (lets be honest who wouldn’t), deleted the app and switched my phone off. I felt both I and my phone had experienced enough and we needed a break.
Apparently pictures say a thousand words, clearly this time they did.
Your flaws are perfect for the heart that is meant to love you.
