Have you ever come across songs that quite literally wrench your heart? The ones that put you in a pit of deep thinking and jerk tears? The kind to cause an overflow of multiple emotions? BTS’ ‘Your Eyes Tell’ is one of those. It’s an emotional ballad with the most soulful vocals and soothing raps. This is a hauntingly alluring song, made to capture the deepest pits of your soul and being them alive.
It’s a song for a Japanese movie called ‘Your Eyes Tell’, which includes a lead female character who’s blind. Co-composer and co-written amazingly by Jungkook, it’s become an absolute fan favourite. Watching the live performance to experience the intriguing vocals is highly recommended.
It starts off with melodious vocals accompanied with cavernous words.
A future without you is a world without colour
filled with monochrome coldness
It’s an analogy to how colours are often associated with various emotions, but without ‘someone’, everything seems colourless, deprived of feelings. It portrays the desire of having someone that makes you think think, feel, and experience. The chorus pleads for person to stay, to believe, and to never leave. It shows the desperation for a healing light and companion. BTS have always used winter as a metaphor for sadness and pain, and the ‘coldness’ in this line may be a reference to that.

Even if it seems to be the beginning of the end, I’ll call your name
Still unable to verbalise the hopeless dream in my heart
These lines convey the vulnerability and despair of people. The effect that numerous hardships have is inexplicable. They convey how everything seems unreachable and out of place. They just want to hold on to the one thing they find comfort in. The next verse conveys how we need a lot of hope and patience to get to someone’s heart, to truly connect with them, and possibly heal them. The lines convey a situation of the nights thinking about such things, looking out at the city with wonder.
To be loved, to love someone
I’ll become your eye for the adventure that lies ahead
In the context of the movie, this line talks about how the character’s partner will guide her and help her through the various walks of life, building a relationship of strengthening each other. But for every other form of love too, it is a hard-hitting lyric. We all long for a source of calmness and peace to get through the twisted crossroads of life together. We want an unconditional figure to set off on the adventurous journey of life together and uncover and solve its treacherous wickedness.

People are not born exhausted or negative. We are not hurt or traumatised from the very initial stage. We change with our progressing lives, the circumstances we face and our fate. So pure and filled with a sense of determination. The adoration we hold for withered souls pacing forward despite everything that happens is unmeasurable, and such enduring positivity is a necessity in our lives. Darkness has personally always been beautiful. It shares a vibe of privacy and insightful depth. Though it nearly always isn’t pretty, it’s still beautiful because the growth and lessons gained from it are irreplaceable. Darkness will, surely, one way or another, help you and nurture you. It is the painful process of being carved into a stunning sculptor.
This sadness will one day wind us together
Isn’t this the most raw truth of all in the universe? We make the deepest connections and strongest relationships when we acknowledge and understand each other’s most painful instances. It makes us human. It makes us realise that nothing’s worthy without our struggles. Sadness winds us together. Nothing’s more powerful to attach humans except the phenomena which we gravitate towards naturally, which we unitedly share; sadness.
