POF : Did POF purge fake profiles?
Someone else mentioned it but POF has expanded the radius of your search. For example a search of 25 miles gives you 50 miles and 10 miles gives you 25 miles etc.
I did a little experimenting to try to figure out what is going on. First thing I noticed is this is only happening if you search outside of a major metropolitan area, such as the small-medium sized city I live in. If you search a big city this will not happen, whatever radius you search is what you’ll get.
So why is this happening outside major population centers. I soon figured it out. You are getting a LOT less profiles. My city had hundreds of profiles yesterday but only 70 today. POF expands your search distance so you get a decent number of profiles to browse through.
My guess is they deleted many profiles in large metro areas as well but they don’t have to expand your search radius because you will still get tons of profiles to look at.
Which profiles did they delete? My guess is they purged the bots, the onlyfans, prostitutes etc that were taking over (and ruining IMO) their site. Casually browsing I saw less of those types of profiles.
So this is my theory but I’m not certain. What do you think is going on?

Here is an update. Someone here mentioned newer accounts get more profiles when you search. I opened a new account and am getting the exact same number of results. Age of account is not a factor. I am quite certain everyone is getting fewer profiles when they search. Maybe it has nothing to with purging fake profiles. Perhaps they don’t show you old inactive profiles anymore?
