Dating : The Night I Met My Boyfriend, I Left Him to Go on a Tinder Date

I arrived at Bellagio, and I met up with my not-future boyfriend and we had a few drinks.

Thankfully, my memory has “failed” me and I cannot remember any details about this man. Not what he looked like, what his name was, nothing. Why would I? I didn’t fall in love with this guy.

The only detail that stands out is how quickly we discovered we had nothing in common, except for our love for Harry Potter.

It was too much.

This is coming from a woman whose dog is named Neville Longbottom.

My love for HP is strong. However, when on a date, I like to discuss things other than my disapproval of movie Ginny, how mad I still am about Remus’s death, and why I think Harry and Draco should’ve ended up together.

But my date wasn’t taking no for an answer.

A no to change the subject, that is. I felt like I was on an interview to join his HP fan club and not at a bar in Las Vegas, trying to get laid.

Once I realized how disastrous this night would be if I stayed, I texted my friend and let her know I was leaving. She asked me to meet her and the rest of the group at a lounge, and I did.

Just like that, I said farewell to the last first date I’ve been on in 2 years.

I came back to the group, as the universe had planned, and this really charming man bought me a whiskey on the rocks (my favorite). We talked, kissed, laughed.

He never left my side after that night.

Sometimes, the most casual beginnings end in something real.

Two years later, my heart still skips when I look back and remember us sitting at opposite ends of the dinner table while I scrolled Tinder.

He almost lost me to HP guy.
