POF : Anyone else had phishing scam attempts on them and shocked at the lack of interest from POF about this?

So i’m pretty new on the plentyoffish dating site. Like 4 or 5 days new. Within this time I’ve had 2 identical phishing scams attempted against me. These are not merely « the cast a wide net  » mass message type of scam. This is an active one on one targeted attack type of scam. Which, in my book, takes the seriousness and the danger to a much higher level. I’m happy to provide the details, but that in itself is not the reason for my post, and I’m sure many are familiar anyway.

My big concern, and what I’m curious about is other users experience in these situations, and what sort of help or information or communication have you had with POF about an incident?

I’ve been very thorough and proactive in my due diligence in attempting to report and provide as much information as possible. Specifically, I’ve kept copies of the conversation between myself and the offenders. I’ve reported the users profile, twice each, and was very descriptive in the comments section offering to provide copies of the messages, links to the fake URLs that the offenders used. DNS site information for hosted fake pages. I’ve even filed a scam report with the website where the pages are hosted. I’ve even curled the server and retrieved the entire sites raw code and looked it over for clues which could be helpful.

So far, I haven’t even received an automated response acknowledging my complaint, let alone a concerned individual member of the sites security staff making a personal inquiry. Which is what i would expect, and what should happen.

Consider your a valued paying customer at a local store, and while in the store someone attempted to rob you. Ok, so maybe it wasn’t within the stores power to prevent the attempted robbery, but you would expect them to listen when you reported it. You would also expect them to listen when you came back the next day and pointed out the robber was there again probably attempting to rob someone else. This is basically what’s happening, and if this is how POF handles these issues they are walking a fine line between complacency and outright conspiracy as for their level of neglegence.

Regardless, I’ve attempted to be as helpful as I could in my encotoures with these scammers. Probably more so than most. I’m just disappointed that POF staff has not even acknowledged that I’ve even reported a user, and an incident.

It almost seems as if POF is allowing this to go on. I understand how not everything is controllable, but the safety of its paying customers while using the site should be a top priority. Of course it’s a constant fight, but good security is active and evolving, and if it was competent it would have made it a much more difficult environment for these criminals to operate.

I’m left wondering how many poor suckers have had their bank account drained, or maybe even worse. This scammer, was very smooth, and I can see how easy it would have been to fall into the trap, and most likely not even have realized it till it was too late.

So, I’d really like hear if anyone else has had any involvement or concern from POF after reporting any similar robbery or attempted robbery. Thanks for reading!

  1. I’ve bitched about it, but they really don’t seem to care. However, when I report them for “stolen photos” they either remove the profile or the pictures.

They are super easy to spot, in my experience. If a man has a poorly written description that says something about looking for an honest caring women to give all his love, approaches with a generic message, and has great pictures of a man who looks to be about 15 years younger than the stated age, it’s almost certainly a scammer. They also almost always say they have black hair and blue eyes no matter what the picture looks like.

I live somewhere that has very distinctive scenery, so if they don’t have any pictures with familiar greenery or of them with a salmon/moose/caribou that they killed, they almost certainly don’t live here.

  2. Good lord. It feels like a huge percentage of the profiles are fake or scams. I am thankful that I don’t have a paid account. It is extremely frustrating and I’m sorry that they’re not being more reactive about any of your complaints.

  3. Definitely have had that happening. I don’t think they care honestly. I’ve also reported it and such. And I can’t tell if they do anything because I usually call them out about it and the guy usually blocks me. One tried to tell me he was from Poland and wanted to talk through WhatsApp i said no but I sent him a message in Polish and he was like wow you also speak that language… The message said I like steak and potatoes… so I knew it was a fake account

  4. I’ve seen a couple of probable scammers who sent me messages. They said they were in their 60s in their profiles but obviously they weren’t in their photos. I sent reports about them to POF, and a the next day, both of them were gone. So to me, their system does work.

  5. I was scammed thousands from a scammer using fake pics name danny martin dannymic26 and AJ0200 pof to find out it was a nigerian man name taiwo Abisogun nelson who came out from behind the fake pics he was using i have turned him into many lawful places.save everything from the scammer i did everything tell him u no he is fake tell him u will offer him a better life in America u will pay for his visa but in mean time u are not doing none of it he fell into my trap u have to play there game back once u no it is a scammer but always be one two step ahead cos they are very smart at what they do and its all for money and no heart. I resrarched learned so much about scammers and nigeria both.go on the fbi scammer site it list all the scams they use to get money.besafe but dont be fooled i was by one and finally after two years of him scamming me yes 2 years i am doing the right thing by turning him in to stop him from hurting others.

  6. Get off pof go use bumble or something I’ve met 2 girls on plenty of fish 99% of the rest immediately send virus links or a link to an only fans or some premium account. The ones that aren’t immediate scammers will text you about how they got cheated on etc and want you to come see them turns out they’re 3 hours away and changed their location but totally real.

I started entertaining this stuff a couple of weeks ago to see how out of control it is out of tons of matches I’d say maybe 5-10 were real people… Maybe the key thing for men aleast on there is when they talk like they’ve never picked up a book. They’ll say stuff like am 22 who the hell talks like that if they do just block and move on.

But seriously go try another site cause pof is nonsense
