POF : How do you spot catfishes?

POF : How do you spot catfishes?

Anyone got any tips? I’m meeting a girl this week and I’m really suspicious, she’s really good looking, is in a bikini in her profile pics and has an amazing bod, seems really nice and funny in texts.. i.e. why would she be talking to Dorkus Maximus over here!?

I’ve tried reverse image searching and got nothing but I don’t want to be pushy and ask her to FaceTime or anything. I just don’t want to look like a twat who thought he could snag hot girls and ends up being laughed at. I’ve had a terrible time with dates lately and I can’t take much more!

  1. I haven’t been active on POF long but I’m always leery of hot women in bikinis especially if its her only pic. The search I do for my area always has a bunch of straight up model pics and plenty of nudes. Obviously there aren’t any women going to post nudes and if they look like a model and only have a pic or 2 I don’t trust them to be real. There are some good fake accounts out there. Even some of the nudes will have a long description and filled up profile. So there are definitely people out there willing to put quite a bit of effort building a fake account.

  2. I can honestly say I am glad MTV does the show Catfish. That show has been a lifesaver for me ever since it started. I can usually tell a catfish when its a guy who has only one pic of himself with no shirt on, and has no other pictures. I mean this picture looks like a professional picture too.

Long story short I actually had a guy who messaged me on POF, and I said is that really you in that picture, and he goes yep. Then I was like well then why does it say average 30yr old male on the bottom of it. He said you got me, I wasn’t getting any messages with my real pictures so I wanted to find something else. I said ya know they make a show about people like you its called catfish. I also let him know bluntly that if he was not happy at all with the way he looked then he should not be on a dating site until he can work on himself to the point where he is happy with himself.

Another time I got all the way to the date and the guy looked nothing like his photos. He was a lot taller, and he looked creepy like (no offense). I was so pissed off too because I felt duped. He said his photos were over 5yrs old. He wanted to go to a club after dinner and I totally was not feeling the date at all, so I said I just wanted to go home and I got out of the car and ran into my house quickly. He messaged me a year later on POF acting like we had never met before. I called him out on his photos because guess what he was still using the same photos. He never messaged me again.

  3. There can be different levels of catfishing.

They are a real person, pictures are current, but have no plans of meeting and just want to message only when they are bored. Messaging only for more than a week, you’re being played, get a cell phone number or walk away from contacting them.

A stolen picture to attract you then thinking you fell for them that you’ll overlook everything and just accept them. They total forget that lying to you from the start is the whole problem. Sometimes they’ll use someone’s Instagram accounts so they have a steady flow of pictures, a way around this is ask them to take a custom picture, like hand write your name and their name on paper for you because you took handwriting classes or some shit.

They are just trying to get your money, they’ll usually work pretty fast, but some can go on for years. One method is they’ll send nudes and then someone contacts you days later claiming to be the father and you need to send money or they’ll call the cops for having pictures of their underage daughter. Call their bluff and tell them to call.

Go with your gut, if it is too good to be true, it probably is.

  4. If she’s local and it’s a quick coffee first date, there’s no danger to it if it’s close by. It doesn’t cost that much either. I always thought if it’s a catfish, I’ll see an old dude, and I’ll just turn around.

Catfish usually have one picture, might not even show their face, usually they ask for a lot, and they overused emotes. That’s my general rule. I still engage in them though, but I quit POF already.

  5. If you’ve never dated girls that hot, chances are it’s a fake profile. Best way to find out is to talk on the phone or video chat. If they refuse, they’re fake.

  6. I always video chat prior to meeting someone it honestly gives me so much insight. I usually tell the guy I want to video chat so I can feel more comfortable in meeting them. Anyone who doesn’t want to video chat I don’t meet its as easy as that. And the reverse image search thing may not work if someone like uses a picture that isn’t well known. Like if someone steals let’s say my picture from one of my social media accounts I’m not a well known person, so my pictures may not generate much searches so yeah video chat is the way to go. If ensures you aren’t wasting your time I think of it as a form of respect.

  7. Use her number and do a lookup of her number on facebook or google. Take her name and google it. Try to find something. I do it for ever woman. If theres nothing that pops up there is definitely something off. No one doesnt have any form of social media at all.
