POF : How does the “x wants to get to know you” notification work?

POF : How does the “x wants to get to know you” notification work?

I’m new to PoF and I feel like there are some things associated with this app that are a bit unintuitive. Typically I’ll see in my alerts the notification “x sent you a message!” but today I received my first “x wants to get to know you!”. Aside from the obvious, what does this mean? Is there some list of alerts you can choose to send people?
