Oh, you get notified if you’re blocked? Didn’t know that…
I think they block you because once you’ve been blocked it’s more difficult for you to report their profile and get it removed.
I just had the same thing with a profile called Coolest_Scorpio who tried to get me to sign up for voice calls via [pof-callapp.com](https://pof-callapp.com) (do NOT do this, obviously), which is clearly a site that exists purely to harvest account details of POF users (different security certificate issuer to [pof.com](https://pof.com), grammar errors on page, site is hosted on weebly, and there are probably more giveaways that I haven’t listed).
The initial chat seemed fairly genuine so I sent a message to the effect, « Hmm, that looks like it might be a scam site: be careful about using it and, if you already have, you should definitely change your POF password, » and was immediately blocked, which I discovered when I tried to send a second message with more details.
As it happens I had the chat open in both a desktop browser and the mobile app, and I’d been typing in chat via the desktop browser. As far as I can tell, once you’re blocked there’s no way to report a user via the desktop browser. However, because I also had the chat open in the mobile app, and the block notification didn’t get through, I was still able to report them and ask POF to delete their profile via the menu at the top right of the chat screen.
Anyway, as I said, I think that’s why they block you immediately: because it makes it more difficult for you to report their profile and get POF to remove it. I guess your only recourse at that point would be to email POF.
