POF : Pof and okcupid fell the f off

Pof used to be great back in the day, yeah there was fake profiles, but Holy shit as of late the fake profiles are literally staggering. I was in a year and half relationship, so I had about a 20 month hiatus from dating sites. Going back on pof, a lot of the girls who are real have seriously been there for 10 years, many with the same pics and profiles. Okcupid is the same way, many fake profiles. How hard is it to make a phone verification code to make a profile? I’m sure that would eliminate most of it. Or at the very least a quick button to report the fake profiles. If I had money I’d invest in a free or very cheap dating website that addressed all this nonsense. Why show a profile on a site if the person hasn’t logged in I’m basically months or years? Someone had said match owns pof and okcupid and they are making them crappy so people go to match to pay. I’m starting to believe it

  1. There was a programme on BBC radio this past week looking at online dating. It boiled down to people were frustrated with useless sites and were choosing to go on singles events like escape rooms and dirty Scrabble nights.

Something has to give. There will come a time that cynicism is so high, spam so prevalent and prices so prohibitive there will be a collapse. And Match will feel that most keenly due to them cornering the market.

OLD is stagnant. It works for some but for most it’s not fun or useful, just frustrating and more work than it need be. POF and co need to tighten up or they’re looking at a market collapse.

  2. I’m pretty sure some of the women on there exist solely to report guys and get them kicked off the website.

I’ve been banned from the site in under three days in some cases, pretty sure someone I said hello to hit the report button.

  3. When were you on POF. I was on it back after it first started to get popular. No fake profiles and you could filter out a lot of stuff. You could also leave comments on profiles and send gifts.

Markus sold to match and that is when it went downhilll. Match owns all sites just about

  4. >Someone had said match owns pof and okcupid and they are making them crappy so people go to match to pay.

I absolutely believe this to be so–more with POF than OKC. I’ve had a lot of luck with OKC, four dates in about five weeks. POF had gotten me nothing but fun conversations to post here with girls who don’t get / aren’t into my humor.

Having said that, I did have a fantastic date with a woman from POF who I’m hoping to meet again this weekend. So as crappy and bot-laden as POF is, it is technically possible to meet somebody on here.

Even if she does live 90 minutes away. 🙁

  5. It is possible to meet actual people, I have.

But there are a lot of fakes
It really shouldn’t be that hard to filter them out

  6. there is on okcupid you can search by online now or in last day week or w/e so you can filter out the people who havent been on in months or years

  7. That’s because the bots are the ones footing the bill, or rather their owners/creators.

The free websites are actually better than pay ones, the user base has wisened up to this.

My theory is they are practically letting the bots run rampant and giving the illusion they care because they are getting paid to allow the bots to exist for a while.

There is no incentive for them to address the problem, meanwhile they can sell ads, bot space and user data.
