Inspiration is the kindle to the fire, it can give you ideas and passion. It’s like when you see someone singing or dancing and they’re really good and you feel inspired to learn and do what they are doing. It’s the spark that started the fire, (it’s a metaphor for your beginning interest in writing) and there’s going to many sparks on your journey, and that’s a good thing. Most of the time you don’t have to look for inspiration, it usually finds you. Though, If you’re seeking inspiration in writing, look for writings that are related to your interests and learn from them. Analyze the style and structure of writings that inspire you and the essence of that writing will rub off on you and then that essence will appear in your writing. You’ll combine different strategies of writing and then your own style will start to show. People will keep reading because of your originality, and originality comes from inspiration. If you’re seeking inspiration, you can find it in anything, not just other people’s writing.

Anything, everything, something. Every writing idea that pops into your head, you need to write it down and either act upon it or come back to it later. Have a brainstorm session of ideas. To start off, think of 10 or more. Ideas are the foundation of writing. The beginning of a article, story, or essay is always supposed to hook the reader, so always keep the beginning strong, and grab their attention. Then the rest is supposed to keep that attention. Though, there is only one way to keep a reader’s attention. That “way” is to know your audience.

Picking and knowing your audience is always key to succeeding in writing. If you’re writing a story on a local business closing down, obliviously, your main audience will be locals and maybe some other business firms. You need to think about the audience’s wants and/or needs. Putting the most relevant, attention grabbing information at the beginning and then going in more depth farther along in the story. Other writings such, as blogs, can be a little harder to understand what audiences are present. When it’s hard to tell the audience, just try to imagine yourself as the audience. When you do this, always take a break from your writing and then come back after a long while. After resetting your mind, by stepping away from your writing, read the whole thing and see if it all fits and feels good. If you feel like you got the audience in your crosshairs then you are on your way. So, you know your audience and got their attention. How do you keep it? Through passion.

After brain blasting, look at your ideas and then pick one that you are most passionate and informed about. This passion is what drives your writing, it keeps you going. The idea could possibly be about one of your hobbies, this is fine. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, and if you’re having fun writing about one of your hobbies, it’s even better. Usually passion is found in hobbies and interests of a person. Passion is similar to inspiration, in that passion has many kindling moments in life. Passion can die out but it can just as easily come back. So let’s say you have passion, passion, can only take you so far.

Especially if you are writing something super long, passion can only take you so far. Sometimes you feel tired or like you don’t want to write anyone, that is when you push on and finish and do “one more”. Find the reason that made you start writing in the first place. Ask yourself, “Why am I writing this?” If you think it’s a good enough reason to keep writing, then keep writing. Dedication is sticking with it, so keep on keeping on. Though, if you feel like the reason isn’t good to you, then maybe take a break and come back to it later. When you come back, image yourself as the reader and see if it fits with the reader/audience. Also, seeking a little inspiration could help you out too.
