Facebook keeps your search history: here’s how to delete it
Whether Facebook is a reflection of your privacy, you are now used to it. The billion-friend social network has taken such an important part in everyday life that it is practically possible to follow your life through your personal history. But if the site keeps your data, it recently granted itself the right to collect your research.
Facebook keeps your search data, just like the pages you’ve decided to follow, the statuses you’ve liked, the photos you’ve posted. Want to check? Go to your « Personal History », accessible from your page, at the top right.
It will reveal to you the result of your research, duly compiled, if you click on the « Include activity » button. The proof below with my personal research.
Unlike the statuses that you comment on or « like », this data collected by the social network is not revealed to the public or to your friends. However, it can be unpleasant to realize that Facebook not only knows what you like, what you are looking for, but keeps it. If this fact worries you, here’s how to delete your search history.
Reset
Once in your personal history, click on « Include activity », go to the left column, click on « More » then on the heading « Research ». Magic: under your astonished eyes, all the research carried out since your registration on the first social network in the world accumulates. All that remains is to click on « Clear searches » at the top right, above your history.
Although Facebook claims that « You are the only person who can see your search history », as history reminds us regularly, a data breach quickly happened. Also, personal searches are most likely scrutinized by the social network in order to offer an even more targeted advertising policy.
