How to insert emojis from Mac or Windows PC?

Integrating an emoji in a message, a tweet or even a post has become a practice adopted by all. But while emoji keyboards are ubiquitous on our smartphones, the same cannot be said for computers. Here are two shortcuts, for Mac and for Windows, which will allow you to insert any emoji in your texts.

Emojis on Mac

To insert an emoji in a tweet, a post, an email, etc., a simple keyboard shortcut is sufficient: CTRL + CMD + SPACE.

The emoji palette appears where your cursor is. You just have to scroll to choose from the different categories of emojis: people, nature, food & drink, celebrations, activities, trips & places, flags, objects & symbols.

MAC users are used to the many combinations of keyboard shortcuts, which mobilize between 2 and 3, or even 4 keys. An aspect that can be restrictive for some. To modify the « CTRL + CMD + SPACE » combination previously defined, go to « System Preferences » then open « Keyboard » and « Keyboard shortcuts ». Click on « Application shortcuts » on the left and « + ». Choose all applications from the drop-down menu, then enter the exact name of the command: “Emoji and Symbols”. Enter the shortcut of your choice.

Emojis on Windows

To insert an emoji in a text, click on the keyboard icon that appears at the bottom right of your screen, in the taskbar. If the keyboard icon does not appear, right-click in the taskbar and click “Show touch keyboard button”. On older versions of Windows, you will have to go to the control panel, then ergonomics options, to activate the on-screen keyboard. Once launched, the virtual keyboard has a « Smiley » button next to the space bar. It can convert classic keyboard to emoji keyboard.

Your keyboard will now change to an emoji keyboard. You can select the emoji you want to add to your text field easily from this Windows keyboard.

Emojis for Facebook and Twitter

Finally, if you want to insert emojis on a Facebook post or tweet and want to be sure that all users will be able to see your emojis, we recommend that you use this service for Facebook and this service for Twitter. You will access the list of 188 smileys compatible with Facebook and those compatible with Twitter.
