POF : negative profile steve harvey had good advice
on one of steve harvey talk shows this was few years ago i saw it. he was helping these women with online dating and he said never message someone with a negative profile never message someone saying stuff like dont want a person who cheat lies w/e no one night stands blah blah. so my question is why do so many people put on there profile stuff like you better not have this or that or be looking for this or that why not just put something nice on your profile? like why not just talk to people and get to know them and if they do something you dont like block them or something instead of having to write all this stuff on your profile.

Because not everybody watches Steve Harvey
I think most people gradually end up with negative profiles as they react to responses they get on the site. As an example, I spent 2 weeks talking to a conservative-ish guy before he asked me to come to church with him and I respectfully declined (atheist) and he put me on blast for wasting his time. Now my profile explicitly states I won’t go to church with anyone. Then I was talking to a more liberal guy, more politically in my lane, and things were going fine until I randomly mentioned going to the shooting range and he said he was « uncomfortable with my obsession with firearms » and blocked me. So now my profile mentions guns.
For what it’s worth I won’t automatically swipe left on someone for having that stuff in their profile but I will be on the lookout for « nice guy » red flags.

I think everyone should be required to take an hour long « online training » course on profile creation and pass a test before creating one
