Dating : (22F) first ever date, need advice

Dating : (22F) first ever date, need advice

I matched with a guy on Tinder and for the first time we actually talked for more than 2 consecutive days and he asked me to get tacos. At the time I had to postpone for a test but he said we could work out the details later but it would probably be on a Friday/weekend. It’s now Wednesday and we haven’t set any details. Should I ask about it? I feel like recently I’m the one starting all the conversations… If we set a date/time, what does one wear to a taco date? I’m very short and kind of overweight and despite the fact that I put a full body pic on my profile I’m afraid he will be surprised when he meets me in person. Help!

  1. Firstly, cudos for putting up the full body pic! I wish everyone did that.

Yes! Give him some times that you are available.

Confidence is key! Fake it if you have to and consider that the short term solution. Longer term, you’re clearly nervous about your appearance so do something about it!

    Enjoy your tacos 😀

  2. Just shoot him a text telling him which days you have time for the taco date. He can take it from there and tell you when he has time himself.

As for what to wear, anything you feel comfortable in. Think of what you would wear when going out with friends. As a guy, I’m more focused on my date than on what she’s wearing. I’m sure you’ll look great when you wear something you feel comfortable in.

Since you posted a full body picture, I don’t think he will be surprised. But even if he is, then that’s for him to worry about. You can’t suddenly grow a bit taller or lose weight overnight, and that is okay. By putting that full body picture up, you did your part.
My point is, if he gets surprised (in a negative way that is), it’s not like you did anything wrong. It just means it wouldn’t work out anyway.

For instance, let’s say I went on a date with a girl and she realized in person that I am not fit enough to be her type, and she lost attraction. It would suck, but it’s not like I did something to cause her to lose interest.
Now, I could decided to start working on myself and get fit; but that wouldn’t be for her sake, but for myself.

I hope I managed to make my point understandable. In any case, have fun in the taco date!

  3. Just hit him up. If you want something, go after it. Last date I went on I asked the dude out first. It went well and he followed up and asked for a second date.

And wear what makes you comfortable. It’s a Taco date so don’t over think it. 🙂

  4. You should. He’s probably waiting for you to let him know when you’re available for a taco date. Not sure what you should wear for the date though. Probably something nice but casual, like a nice top and shorts or jeans

  5. House rules. If you have to cancel a first date it’s up to you to arrange it the second time.

If you cancel but don’t set up alternatives to meet, you come off as disinterested or flakey. You can still be proactive though now and try to make arrangements. The worst thing that’ll happen is nothing.

What to wear: something you feel good in that you enjoy wearing, but flattering. Trust he’s looked at your images. Also you can’t change what you look like so don’t worry about it.

You’re just meeting each other. I know it’s exciting but remind yourself this is low stakes. If the date doesn’t go well, think of it as practice. The more you do this the easier it gets.

Have fun! Don’t take it too seriously. It’s a first date not a marriage proposal after all.

  6. Just ask about it. Maybe he’s busy. Maybe he’s worried he might come off too strong since he already invited you and wants to wait till closer to the day so he doesn’t « appear eager. »

Or maybe hes waiting for you to ask because if you ask, it’s an indicator that you truly are interested.

So my advice. Just ask. Follow up.

  7. He probably thinks that youre not interested after postponing. Even if it was legitimate he may have doubts. Best to message him and ask. What’s the worse that can happen.

  8. Yeah, ask and try to set a date and time. It’s better to know one way or the other.

Dress casual. Choose an outfit you feel cute in, it’ll help with your confidence.

Most importantly, try to have fun. You’re doing this for enjoyment so enjoy it.

  9. Just ask him!

Now that I’m older, I’m over these sorts of games – who should text who.

You want to go on a date, set it up!

I know how nerve-wracking it can be, but he will be just as nervous.

If you are getting tacos, it’s going to be super casual.

I would probably wear a sun dress with some flats or something.

    Have fun!

  10. I would wear either a casual dress that flatters your body shape with casual shoes, or some well fitting jeans and a cute top with maybe some cute flats or sneakers or you could even go for a small heel or a pair of wedges. A date to a taco place is going to be pretty casual, so I see no need to get too dressed up. 🙂 just have fun and be yourself. Do not get too nervous! You will do great.

  11. If you have to postpone, suggest another day that works for you. Or else, there is a good chance he will get the impression you are not actually interested in him.

  12. I’m sure you have enough advice here but as a guy I wouldn’t take it personally if he hasn’t been contributing lots to conversing. When you have a few matches everyone starts to blend together and it can be hard to keep up with conversation with someone you haven’t even met yet. This is the biggest problem with these apps is that I’m an in person kind of guy so I lose interest in someone I haven’t met super fast. I’d try to set a date soon and then you’ll know if he’s interested.

Also thanks for posting a full body pic. It’s as if females (and I’m sure males) just post their good pics and assume we will never see what they actually look like?

It’s more of a turn off for me when I show up on a date and someone looks nothing like their pictures. Just dress nicely (but how you’d normally look) so if you guys keep at it for a while he one day won’t be surprised if your clothes come off and it’s not what he was expecting.

  13. I think there is some concept that there are wrong answers here. There isn’t. Do what you want, if you want to set a time/date do it. Wear what you would normally wear to get tacos.

If the guy is into you, he’s into you and he will 2nd date that shit all day long. If he isn’t, there is no amount of procedures, protocols, or practices that are going to change that.

  14. Yes ask him if he still wants to do it. What to wear, as a man I can tell what NOT to wear, something too slutty. And he wont be surprise, us guys analyze every inch of the photos before saying something about a date.

  15. Depends, are you the traditional type? If so, then don’t contact him. He needs to be the one excited to meet you.

But, if you’re wanting to just hurry up and get out there, then go ahead and inquire. But 2 days isn’t a long time of chatting to me. I usually don’t meet up with a guy until I’ve talked to him for at least a month. But I’m like realllyyyy picky.
