Dating : How does dating work in rural areas or really small towns?
Everyone knows each other. If you are seen dating someone, the whole town knows. If you screw up, everyone knows.
Also there aren’t many places to go, except maybe the usual cafè or some space in nature.
So how does it usually work? Do you take the car and go the nearest city everytime?
I would definitely look at local activities, walking routes etc.
You can always make your own fun as well, some of which doesn’t require much investing (e.g. you could buy a canoe, that then further opens up the opportunity of dates, same goes for bicycles).
I know I especially struggle with this as well. My girlfriend lives about 30 minutes away from me and we both live in the countryside and since I’ve started dating them, my eyes have been opened up to all the invisible lines which connect people- for example, her younger brother is best friends with the son of a Ranger I do work experience with, and her mother knows someone at my new job.
So your behaviour/reputation in the relationship and how go about it is dependent on how you conduct yourself in it as well as how it ends. So make sure when you get in a relationship, you don’t get in it for selfish wants, and rather go into with what you can offer- and remember not to get overly attached by putting whom your dating on a pedestal.
I know climates definitely impact what you can do, middle of the desert, not an awful lot of variation year round, whereas temperate areas, you can revisit nature areas at different times of the year.
Not good advice I know but I honestly couldn’t get really into dating until I left my small hometown. Every guy I met had dated someone I know which totally turns me off. Also, when it doesn’t work out, you still have to see them everywhere. There’s also nothing to do so after a date or two at the local “nice” restaurant, the relationship is strictly Netflix and chill. Just move, you’ll be so glad.
