Dating : I know I probably shouldn’t feel hurt but I feel like my boyfriend doesn’t prioritize me.

Dating : I know I probably shouldn’t feel hurt but I feel like my boyfriend doesn’t prioritize me.

He’s always putting his family before me and I know it’s not something I should be upset about but it always seems as if I’m kind of a last option or not as important to him as they are. If his cousin where stuck in the middle of the freeway and needed a ride I know he’d be willing to help them but If the same situation where to happen to me I feel as if he wouldn’t be willing to help.

And I know everybody has their own important things to take care of but why get into a relationship if your not going to cherish or prioritize your significant other??? Am I just being sensitive?

  1. You’re always saying « I feel like » and « always seems as if. » You’re not providing concrete, objectively true examples. Your entire post is about perceptions, which are apparently ambiguously interpreted. So my impression is that this issue is pretty much in your head, unless you can come up with specific examples of course. Also, it’s important to not want your partner to « choose you » over others. Different situations call for different prioritization. And at the end of the day, the top priority for him should be his own wellbeing and happiness, so that he doesn’t sacrifice those things for other people, not family, not friends, and not you.

  2. Can you give some actual examples of what he does instead of an « if » situation? Also, how old is he? We can’t see into your relatioship and you’re just making up some situation in your head and assume things. It’s OK not to prioritize your SO in some situations and there are situations where SO should be priority, but not in all situations, that would be ridiculous.

  3. Well, you’re not prividing anything that isn’t concrete. You saying thinks such as « like » or « if » and that makes this all seem founded on your belief alone. You aren’t providing anything here that is questionable other than a dude who loves his family and somebody who seemingly is jealous of that or wants more attention. (Which is very understandable.)

I don’t think Reddit will help you in this circumstance, but my best advice would be to go and have a talk with him about it. Sit him down, bring it up, don’t be pushy or accuse him of anything, and things will most likely change. I doubt he’s doing this intentionally.
