Dating : Are extravagant dating profile pics a turn off for anyone else?

Dating : Are extravagant dating profile pics a turn off for anyone else?

I get that you need to show you have a life in your profile, but I think it can get out of hand.

For example, i saw a profile with pictures from all over the world. Eiffel Tower, London, Egypt, parties etc.

I see that and ask « does this person expect me to be able to offer these experiences too, or to have equally amazing experiences myself or I’m boring? »

It can be intimidating or showboaty to me.

Anyone else feel this way?

  1. Turn off. Makes me wonder how the hell some mid 20s person affords trips to 30 different countries. Like I can understand some people are gonna be very successful early on but it seems every other person is more traveled than Marco Polo.

    Which leads me to thinking they have crippling debt from racking up their credit cards or in the case of women they can be found on tagthesponsor.

  2. When I see girls with these kinds of profiles, it’s usually the following:

    * models

    * took a gap year (family’s got some cash)

    * jobs that require travel (stewardesses)

    Like I get it, you’re young, you wanna travel, blah blah blah, but at the same time, your 20s are a pretty valuable time to get ahead in your career. I mean if you’re from a wealthy family, then ok whatever, but for most people, this is the grind time. Someone who’s still « discovering » themselves or « living in the present » on their parents’ money simply won’t be compatible with me. I want someone who has a work ethic and thinks ahead.

  3. I think the short answer is that yes, they do not plan on changing their lifestyle based on who they are dating, so they are choosing to be upfront about an important part of their personality. I agree that it is extravagant, but if that extravagance is not something you’re interested in, then they saved you a right swipe because you know it will be important to them.

    One similar thing that I personally find annoying – When people say that they like to travel in their bio. Who doesn’t like to travel?

  4. I tend to assume these people lack hobbies or other ways to make interesting experiences by themselves. But that’s only if that’s every single picture. Because if it’s every single picture, it indicates to me that always being around people and traveling is what they find desirable.

    Some people have hobbies and still happen to go to parties and travel. Some people’s profiles are literally nothing but fancy clothes and parties and travel.
